We’re looking for a Aquatics Support Specialist to provide hands-on support across multiple YMCA of Southern Maine locations (Biddeford, and Portland Branches).

Responsibilities

This is a unique opportunity to combine aquatics leadership, scheduling, member service, swim instruction, and lifeguarding while working alongside Aquatics Directors and staff across our branches.   • Help develop and manage lifeguard and pool schedules across multiple locations.
  • Communicate staff availability and scheduling expectations.
  • Help resolve coverage challenges and scheduling conflicts.
  • Assist with swim lesson scheduling and instructor coordination. Be a Resource for Lifeguards 
  • Support lifeguards with day-to-day questions, expectations, and skill development.
  • Help with in-service planning and staff training.
  • Step in to guard when coverage needs arise and your schedule allows.
  • Maintain a strong focus on safety and rescue readiness while guarding. Support Great Swim Lessons 
  • Help coordinate swim lesson sessions, rosters, materials, certificates, and other session needs.
  • Communicate with instructors and help ensure they have what they need to be successful.
  • Assist members and families with lesson questions, changes, and cancellations.
  • Teach swim lessons when appropriate based on your qualifications and schedule. Help Keep Aquatics Operations Running Smoothly
  • Complete pool operations tasks, including water chemistry testing and appropriate follow-up. 
  • Maintain swimmer logs and other required records.
  • Enter and track program and operational data. 
  • Assist with staff recruitment and onboarding. 
  • Work with the Aquatics Director on projects and opportunities to improve aquatics programs and operations. Be a Go-To Person 
  • Build positive relationships with members and staff.
  • Provide excellent customer service. 
  • Serve as a knowledgeable and approachable resource for aquatics staff. 
  • Communicate effectively and help teams navigate changing needs.
  • Know when to take initiative and when to bring an issue to the Aquatics Director. 
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • 1-3 years’ prior aquatics experience. Experience working with youth preferred.
  • Strong swimming skills.
  • Current certifications, or has the capability to obtain and maintain with YMCA support:
    • Lifeguard: YMCA On the Guard II and/or American Red Cross 
    • Swim Lesson Instructor: YMCA V6, YMCA Swim Instructor or Water Safety Instructor preferred.
    • Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) and Oxygen (02).
  •  High school diploma or GED.
  • Strong communication, organization, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and adapt to changing staffing and scheduling needs.
  • Comfortable working across multiple locations and collaborating with different teams.
  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and databases.
  • Valid driver's license, reliable vehicle, and ability to travel locally between YMCA locations.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain required certifications.

Posted Salary Range

USD $19.00 - USD $21.00 /Hr.
